About our site

The Women’s International E-Parliament (WIEP) was originally created in April 2009 by three people following a discussion on a rational thinking forum that showed, firstly, how far we still need to go to win the battle for women’s equality in the world; secondly, that despite the many existing feminist campaign groups and discussion forums there was to the best of our knowledge no website that contained both elements, so that individual women suffering infractions of their human rights could directly request action and see it happen; and thirdly, that in our view the existence of such a site would be a Very Good Thing and Something Must Be Done Immediately.

We duly set up a forum, launched it in the spring of 2010 complete with a membership system, constitution, debate and election rules, a business plan and advertising leaflets, and waited for the discussions to fire up…

…and nothing happened.

We’re not sure why it failed, but it is possible that we aimed too high to begin with, and tried to do too much with too few resources. Therefore, on the principle that most things need to start small, for the time being the WIEP is now a blog.

We’ll see how things go from here.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far. We ask for your patience while we are building the site.

Best wishes
